Bodily Exercise & Godliness

16 August 2006

“For bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the present life and of that which is to come.”  (1 Timothy 4:8)

Godliness is profitable for all things – things that are not only of one part of our being but of all parts – physical, psychological, and spiritual, temporal and eternal.

Changing My Routine

15 August 2006

Well, I’ve decided to change my routine to the following:

Mon: Chest & Triceps (+ 2nd session of cardio)

Tue: Cardio

Wed: Back & Biceps (+ 2nd session of cardio)

Thur: Cardio

Fri: Shoulders & Legs

Then a long cardio day either on Sat or Sun depending on how my legs are feeling after Fridays.

Started Monday well enough:
3 x 6 x BB Bench Press
3 x 8 x DB Incline Press
3 x 10 x DB Flies
3 x 10 x DB Kickbacks
3 x 10 x Tricep Extensions

Went back at night for a 3 mile jog. Felt quite good after that.

Noon-time today, jogged for 25 mins @5.5mph and walked at incline for 10 mins. Finished off with 10 mins on elliptical. Can’t wait for my performance to increase as a result of me quitting smoking. I seriously think that this is the cause of my cardio not being effective as of late. I am just not hitting it intense enough.

Currently enjoying DOMS on my chest but not so much on the triceps. Need to change the exercises for the triceps next week. All in all, pretty good start to my new routine.

Never Take Another Puff – Day 7

15 August 2006

It’s been a week since I’ve quit smoking. Am sucking on a LemonMint Ricola lozenge which has now replaced my usual pack of Marlboro Reds in my pockets.

An amazing occurence on Sunday: I strapped on my Polar Heart Rate Monitor before going to the gym. As usual, I set it to detect my resting heart rate during the drive to my gym. Previously, my resting heart rate will be between 70-80. To my surprise and delight, today it was between 55-65!! I know smoking causes your heart rate to increase but can the benefits really come through in less than a week of me kicking the habit?? Apparently, they do! :)
